At Williams Environmental, we are committed to ensuring all waste collections and processing run smoothly, safely, and in full compliance with UK waste regulations. Recently, we have seen an increase in incorrectly completed Waste Consignment Notes, which is leading to delays and, in some cases, the unfortunate need to reject incoming loads.
A Waste Consignment Note is a legally required document that records the movement of waste from the producer to the disposal or treatment facility. Completing a waste consignment note correctly helps ensure compliance with UK waste regulations and prevents delays, rejected loads, and administrative issues.
To maintain efficiency and compliance, it is essential that all customers and carriers complete Waste Consignment Notes accurately and in full before waste arrives on site.
Why Waste Consigment Notes matter
Waste consignment notes are a legal requirement under UK waste legislation. They ensure a clear audit trail of waste transfer and help protect all parties in the chain. Incorrect or incomplete documentation can result in:
- Delays in processing waste deliveries
- Additional administrative work
- Potential regulatory non-compliance
- Rejection of incoming loads
Common issues we are seeing
Some of the most frequent errors include:
- Missing signatures or dates in section C & D
- Missing or incomplete carrier details
- Incorrect site details
- Incorrect waste classification or EWC codes
- No declared quantity or incorrect weight
- Extra Wastes than declared

How to complete a Waste Consignment Note correctly
To help avoid issues, please ensure the following steps are followed:
- Complete Sections A & B describing where the waste will be removed from and taken to before the driver leaves his yard.
- In section B check that the Waste Description matches your waste consignment & that the correct EWC Code’s are used
Williams can help with this step prior to collection. - Include in Section C the Full Carrier Details including the Carriers (Transporters) Name, address, and carrier registration details which must be complete and accurate.
- At the Waste Producers site (Customers site) please ensure section C is completed by the Driver and section D by the Customer, they must both be completed fully before your driver leaves with the waste for the Disposal Site. Both Dates and Times in section C & D should be the time the driver leaves the Customers Site and are usually identical.
- In summary All sections A, B, C, and D must be accurate and complete before the driver leaves for the Waste Disposal Site with the waste.
- The driver should Deliver the Waste at the Earliest Convenience and always within 72 hours.
- At the Disposal site we check that sections A-D are complete and if so we then inspect the waste. Providing that the Waste appears to be as described we then complete section E and return a copy to your driver while we carry out the full inspection.
We kindly ask all customers and partners to double-check consignment notes before dispatch. This small step helps prevent delays, ensures compliance, and allows us to process your loads efficiently on arrival.
